We love food. Whether we partake in making it or eating it, food is an experience that pleases the senses and brings family and friends together.
This love had to start somewhere, and for us we trace it back to our first family meals. We both have fond memories from these times; Jake's mum handing him the wooden spoon to lick, Komala's dad making sugar roti on his seasoned tava hotplate. These events shape you, happy experiences leading to later obsession.
Our cultures may have been different to start but many aspects of food are universal, diversity widening our horizons. This zine is our homage to food nostalgia. In some ways our stories couldn't be more different, but the thread is the same: the recipes we remember most fondly are snapshots of our youth, of the humble beginnings leading to our current love.
Zine launch and library
The zine will be officially launched on the 18th of October alongside an exhibition of art and photography. We're also compiling a collection of food zines to for free reading at the cafe until the end of the year.
If you have any food zines you would like included in the library, please mail them to us at:
